About the subject

Thank you for choosing to study Further Mathematics at Barnsley Sixth Form College.

Remember that A level Further Mathematics is an additional A level to Mathematics; meaning that half of your timetable will be maths! It is important that you enjoy the problem solving aspect of maths and have a genuine interest for the subject, otherwise you are likely to find it challenging. We are committed to ensuring that you make great progress throughout your AS and/or level Further Mathematics course.

Your tasks to complete

To have the best possible start to the year, we have provided you with a summer work pack. It is vital that you spend time working through these questions over the summer. The questions are challenging, but are based on GCSE knowledge; you should know everything you need to know already, but they will require some problem solving skills. What I am looking for is how well you can communicate mathematically. A list of correct answers will score you some marks, but well explained, coherent and concise solutions will score you many more marks. You must write your solutions neatly onto lined (or squared) A4 paper and bring them to your first Further Maths lesson in September.
