MP visits Barnsley Sixth Form College

Barnsley Sixth Form College students have received an insight into life in parliament from Michael Dugher MP.

Mr Dugher, MP for Barnsley East, visited the Sixth Form College to speak to students about his path into politics and subsequent career.

The discussion covered a range of issues such as Mr Dugher’s life and career in politics, his day-to-day schedule and the most challenging and rewarding things about the job.

The students also heard Mr Dugher’s views on the benefits of completing a Politics degree and resulting career pathways, in addition to current political topics such as Brexit, before having the opportunity to ask him questions.

Mr Dugher said: “It’s always a pleasure to visit Barnsley College and it was great to meet so many enthusiastic students who are interested in politics and asked such a range of impressive questions.

“The college is a brilliant place that we should all be proud of. It boasts some of the best facilities in the region and offers fantastic opportunities to our young people. I was really impressed by the students and staff.”

AS Level student Joe Sheldon added: “Hearing Michael’s views and entryway into politics was really insightful as it related to what I want to do in the future.  It was really valuable to receive Michael’s expert advice.”
