Information on how GCSE results will be awarded this summer

Since the Secretary of State for Education announced that the 2020 exam series in England would be cancelled to help fight the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) have worked quickly to develop a process which fairly recognises students’ work and makes sure they get their grades in time to progress.

They published how this will work on Friday 3 April 2020.

Barnsley College is being asked to provide a grade for every student in each GCSE subject based on what we believe you would be most likely to achieve if you had sat your exams.

The grades you will be awarded will be based on looking at different sources of evidence including:

All the judgements that College takes into account to determine the grade you achieve should be done on the evidence that we already have for you. This means that we will not set additional mock exams or homework tasks to help determine grades. It is important to note that Ofqual says that “no student should be disadvantaged if they are unable to complete any work set after schools were closed”

All grading completed by College will be uploaded to the examination bodies after 29 May 2020.

We don’t yet have a confirmed date for the when the results will be released to students.

We still don’t have any information about any examinations to be set in the Autumn.
