Although we all hope to get through life without major problems, the reality is that most of us have to face difficult circumstances at some point. At such times it can help to talk to someone else in privacy, and in confidence.

The counsellors at Barnsley Sixth Form College are professionally trained, experienced, and committed to offering you the help you may need. If you have problems whilst you are at Sixth Form, whether to do with your studies or your personal life, please do not hesitate to contact us. The service is free and confidential.

Counselling offers you the opportunity to talk about important issues, to be listened to, and gain new understanding and awareness. Counsellors do not have any magic answers, but they will take your concerns very seriously and give you time, space, and support, to look at them afresh.

It is hoped that this process will help you to reach a better understanding of yourself and of possible choices and solutions. No problem is too small or too big, to bring to counselling.

If you would like to access counselling, please complete a SPA referral form and send it to

How to complete the SPA referral form.

Are you a College student and would like to access counselling without anyone knowing you have enquired but possibly need some support filling in the form? Then fill in the 4 questions on the link provided, click submit, and someone will get back to you.

Examples of issues which might trouble you include family and relationship problems; anxiety; self confidence; depression; anger; grief and loss; want to see your counsellor and ask any questions you may have at your first session.

You can talk to a counsellor in confidence. Nothing you say will be revealed to anyone else and no-one will know that you are coming for counselling unless you wish to tell them. The important exception to this rule would be if the counsellor was concerned that you or another person was at risk of serious harm. Our confidentiality guidelines will be fully explained to you in your first meeting with a counsellor.
