Callum wins university scholarship

Student Callum Walmsley is looking forward to a bright future after winning an entrance scholarship to Aberystwyth University.

Callum has recently completed A Level examinations in English Language, English Literature and Sociology at the Sixth Form and will begin a BA (Hons) English Literature and Creative Writing at Aberystwyth in September.

The 18-year-old, of Guest Road, Old Town, sat two examinations at the Sixth Form, one on English and Creative Writing and one on English Literature to achieve the scholarship. A limited number of scholarships are awarded to candidates who score the highest aggregate marks in both examinations. He also received a £1,000 Merit Award.

Callum said: “I found out about the scholarship and spoke about it with my mum who advised me to give it a go. I have visited the university for an interview and found Wales to be such a different place which I am looking forward to exploring.”

Mark Goodrham, Director of Teaching, Learning and Development, said: “We are so proud of Callum for taking full advantage of the opportunities offered to students with the very highest aspirations. Achieving this scholarship would not have been possible without Callum’s dedicated effort to achieve academic excellence, he is a credit to the Sixth Form.”
