A Level students inspired by unforgettable Berlin trip

A Level students from Barnsley Sixth Form College recently returned from an unforgettable trip to Berlin, where they explored a city rich in history, culture and creative expression.

The visit gave students the opportunity to experience Berlin through a truly creative lens, combining art, film and history in ways that brought their learning to life beyond the classroom. Highlights included the Street Art Tour, Berlin TV Tower, Neues Museum, Hamburger Bahnhof Museum, Studio Berlin Adlershof and the East Side Gallery.

Alongside these visits, students also explored some of Berlin’s most significant historical landmarks, including the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the site of the Führerbunker, Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, Topography of Terror and the Reichstag. These powerful locations helped students gain a deeper understanding of Berlin’s past and the events that shaped the city.

Joshua Merryman, a Business, Film and Information Technology A Level student, said: “Berlin taught me that the best film lessons don’t always happen in classrooms, they happen in the places where history left its shadows.”

Olivia Haigh, an Art, Film and Media A Level student, added: “In Berlin we saw a huge range of different kinds of art, from street art and graffiti to sculptures and even ancient art from the Egyptian era. It was all really interesting.”

The trip offered students a valuable chance to develop their creative awareness, broaden their cultural understanding and take inspiration from one of Europe’s most vibrant cities.
